Sage Grant receives the department’s 2021 Frederick A. Meier Book Award

Since receiving a generous endowment in 2018, the Department of World Languages and Cultures awards annually the Frederick A. Meier Book Award. This department’s faculty chooses a graduating senior who:

  • Has majored in a language.
  • Displays distinctive leadership in the discipline, such as in university student organizations.
  • Has achieved academic excellence.
  • Exhibits meritorious service to the discipline, such as in campus and community service.
  • Is committed to increasing awareness of cultural diversity and promotes respect for difference inclusivity on campus.

Receiving a cash payment and a gift, this year’s winner is Sage Grant ‘21. Grant, who will receive her Bachelor’s degree in World Languages and Cultures (French Concentration) and Political Science in May 2021, is an avid lover of languages, cultures, and travel. During her time at SSU, Grant participated in short and long-term study abroad programs in China, France, and New Zealand. Sage was hired as a French tutor for our program during her sophomore year, working one on one with beginning and intermediate French students to help them succeed in their courses. Now in her final year of university studies, Sage’s demeanor, confidence, and strong language and intercultural skills have made her a shining star in our department.
