The Seal of Biliteracy is a national movement to reward program completers for attaining a functional level of biliteracy in English and at least one other world, heritage or native language. The Seal of Biliteracy is official documentation that will soon become recognized as a career readiness skill by employers. We have created a Salem State University World Languages and Cultures Seal of Biliteracy Award to honor those students who officially document at least the Advanced Low level of proficiency according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines by their graduation. This year, three program graduates are receiving our departmental Seal of Biliteracy Award. Congratulations to them on the official record of their biliteracy that they should feature on their resumés as documentation of their proficiency in their language of study. We hope that they will wear the medal at graduation and continue your language proficiency development as we all know that language study is a life-long process.
